I wanted to share this great note Pat sent to Joyce. Enjoy!
Hi Joyce,
Just read on the Scrapbook Parade blog that you are leaving….I KNEW IT!! When you said a couple of months ago that you saw a house you really liked, Cranbrook or somewhere in that area - and I saw the look in your eye? – I thought.hmmm – that lady is out of here soon!
I just want to throw my 2 cents into other comments etc that I am positive you have heard by now.
IT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF YOU - that my old family pictures come out of shoe boxes, envelopes, plastic bags, magnetic photo albums etc, and were put in some kind of safe order for my future generations. I knew very little of my family heritage. When my mother died in 1990, I inherited these shoe boxes etc of pictures with very little idea of what to do with them.
So for almost 15 years after she died I just left them in the old boxes etc that they were already stored in. BTW – I love your suggestion to use the original pictures, as where is the better place for them – in that shoe box or on a magnificent scrapbook page!
My mom was really interested in genealogy, but I had no interest in it 20-25 + years ago, as much as she tried to get me involved.
But as I got older and my health suffered I did take an interest. I joined the Victoria genealogy society a few years ago and one day attended the Lancashire SIG - I think it was the 2nd meeting I went to that you brought your magnificent scrapbooks in for show and tell – and then put together a scrapbook page for us all to see (with an English birth certificate – I think you said later it was published?) and then a few weeks later you arranged for a field trip to Scrapbook Parade at Royal Oak - I still love the original 2 pages I did that day – they were very basic, but told a story…and from that day forward - I was completely hooked!
I thank you, my kids thank you and I know some day my grandchildren will appreciate what I have done!! My girls love to come over and sit together going through the albums that I have created and reading the stories that I have made sure are on each page. They always ask to see my new pages, but never tire of going over the ones they have already seen.
I now am in the process of creating not only a written genealogy record of our family history but also an amazing picture story of our family,
I will miss your classes – SO MUCH! It is the one outing of the month that I always looked forward to.
I wish you and your husband much happiness and fun in your new home. Good luck to you both.
Again, have a great time as you embark on your new adventure!!
Pat
