Note from Pat to Joyce!

27 01 2010

I wanted to share this great note Pat sent to Joyce.  Enjoy!

Hi Joyce,

Just read on the Scrapbook Parade blog that you are leaving….I KNEW IT!!  When you said a couple of months ago that you saw a house you really liked, Cranbrook or somewhere in that area - and I saw the look in your eye? – I thought.hmmm – that lady is out of here soon!

I just want to throw my 2 cents into other comments etc that I am positive you have heard by now.

IT IS ONLY BECAUSE OF YOU - that my old family pictures come out of shoe boxes, envelopes, plastic bags, magnetic photo albums etc, and were put in some kind of safe order for my future generations. I knew very little of my family heritage. When my mother died in 1990, I inherited these shoe boxes etc of pictures with very little idea of what to do with them.
So  for almost 15 years after she died I just left them in the old boxes etc that they were already stored in. BTW – I love your suggestion to use the original pictures, as where is the better place for them – in that shoe box or on a magnificent scrapbook page!

My mom was really interested in genealogy, but I had no interest in it 20-25 + years ago, as much as she tried to get me involved.

But as I got older and my health suffered I did take an interest. I joined the Victoria genealogy society a few years ago and one day attended the Lancashire SIG  -  I think it was the 2nd meeting I went to that you brought your magnificent scrapbooks in for show and tell – and then put together a scrapbook page for us all to see (with an English birth certificate – I think you said later it was published?) and then a few weeks later you arranged for a field trip to Scrapbook Parade at Royal Oak -  I still love the original 2 pages I did that day – they were very basic, but told a story…and from that day forward - I was completely hooked!

I thank you, my kids thank you and I know some day my grandchildren will appreciate what I have done!! My girls love to come over and sit together going through the albums that I have created and reading the stories that I have made sure are on each page. They always ask to see my new pages, but never tire of going over the ones they have already seen.

I now am in the process of creating not only a written genealogy record of our family history but also an amazing picture story of our family,

I will miss your classes –  SO MUCH! It is the one outing of the month that I always looked forward to.

I wish you and your husband much happiness and fun in your new home. Good luck to you both.

Again, have a great time as you embark on your new adventure!!

Pat

Year in Review Class last night with Lana

26 01 2010

This is the first of 12 Year in Review Classes.  Looks like everyone had a GREAT time!

Do you need Cricut mats?

25 01 2010

At the All Day Crop January 16th one of the girls beside me mentioned that she can never seem to get Cricut mats.  She said they are always sold out when she goes to Walmart or Michael’s so, I told her I would check with all of you to see if perhaps you wanted me to do a BIG BULK order so we could stock you up.

The cost for these would be:

7″ x 14″ Mat = $15.95

12″ x 12″ Mat = $18.95

12″ x 24″ Mat = $24.95

You would have to Pre-Pay for them and it will take approximately 2 weeks from the day I send in the order.  If anyone is interested please e-mail scrappix@scrapbookparade.ca and let me know.  I’m going to place an order on February 8th which gives you plenty of time to decide.

Thanks, Carol

BIG NEWS!

24 01 2010
After almost 10 years teaching classes at Scrapbook Parade Joyce Lennard is moving to the Kootenay’s.  Joyce and Barry have lots of family in the area and have been thinking about this move for quite some time.  They’ve recently purchased a home in Cranbrook and are getting ready to pack and move.  I want to first say how much I’m going to miss her at the store — her over the top humor and talent is going to be missed by so many of us!  By the way, can I buy your gun rack?  Ha Ha Ha!  Second, thanks Joyce for the last 2-1/2 years staying with the store and teaching when I took over.  You have so many friends that are going to miss you but like they say “when one door closes, another one opens”.  Third, we are still going to have “Heritage Classes” and Elizajane will be taking them over.  In fact she is going to teach the March Class that Joyce designed.  We will post pictures next week about the class.  Please join me in saying thanks to Elizajane for picking up Joyce’s classes and also saying “GOOD LUCK” to Joyce!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
We’re going to have a tea at the store on Sunday, February 7th from 1:00 – 3:00.  Come and join us to congratulate Joyce on her New Adventures!

Here is a note from Joyce:

The time has come to say goodbye to everyone who has made me smile over the last 9+ years.  Scrapbook Parade was more than just a workplace to me, it was a place where people were my friends and shared with me the stories of their ancestors.  I’ll never forget dead Fred and Alma.  I would like to say I’ve met so many good people here, both past and present, and that is what has made this job truly enjoyable.  It was a special time for me.  I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to help you preserve your cherished memories.

I’m going to miss working at Scrapbook Parade.  I will always remember each and everyone who took my classes, and I know that you will remember me every time you ink, distress or rip your scrapbooking papers.  I hope that you all continue to preserve your history “one page at a time” with Elizajane.  She is very talented and is looking forward to teaching you.
So thank you for everything,
Joyce
